Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the Cancer Support Community Atlanta?
The Cancer Support Community Atlanta is an organization that offers free, professionally led programs to support people facing cancer. Our home-like facility provides support groups, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes, and social activities. We offer nutrition programs, gentle exercise classes, social activities, and the opportunity for extended discussions with leading physicians during our education forums. Our programs are for people who have been diagnosed with cancer, their loved ones, and caregivers. Recently we expanded our calendar of events and now offer series designed specifically for children to support them in their unique journey with cancer in their lives.
We are the Atlanta affiliate of the world’s largest organization providing psychosocial oncology programs, allowing all of our offerings to be of the highest quality. We have also been chosen as a partner with Northside Hospital, providing support to each of the patients who are treated at the three Northside Hospital campuses.
What is the cost? How are your programs funded?
All programs are offered free of charge and our facility has free parking for everyone who comes to our classes. This is possible only through the generous contribution from our community partners like Northside Hospital, and individuals and companies who contribute to our organization.
Who is eligible to come to programs at the Cancer Support Community Atlanta?Any person affected by cancer is eligible to participate in our programs, whether it is the patient, caregiver, children, or other loved ones. Our calendar of programs can be your guide to the programming that best supports each group of people we serve.
Where is the Cancer Support Community Atlanta located? We are conveniently located in the heart of Sandy Springs near the Northside Hospital campus. We are next door to the Medical Marta Station and have free parking, making our programs accessible to everyone.
I am interested in learning more about the impact of nutrition on Survivorship. Does CSC Atlanta offer nutrition programs? We offer a variety of nutrition programs including individual consultations, group workshops and cooking demonstrations. Since the expansion of our new 1,100 square foot, state of the art demonstration kitchen, our programs have been enhanced with additional nutrition classes that focus on healthy cooking techniques and the latest in nutrition findings.
My family is having a tough time with my diagnosis. What do you offer for them?We recognize that a cancer diagnosis affects the whole family. That’s why we offer various programs throughout the year that are specifically geared towards children. Like everything at CSC Atlanta, all children’s programming is led by a team of professionals to help them manage the invasion of cancer in their family.
What is the process for getting started in the Cancer Support Community Atlanta? If you’re new to our community we require that you attend a “New Member Orientation”. This meeting is held twice a week: Monday mornings at 10am and Thursday evenings at 6pm. You will learn about our history, our mission, our philosophy and our program offerings. You will also have an opportunity to meet others who are affected by cancer, including family and friends. These meetings require an RSVP.
I am not a patient at Northside Hospital. Can I still participate in CSC Atlanta programs?Although we are an affiliate of Northside Hospital, all people affected by cancer are welcome to join our free classes regardless of where their treatment is being managed.
